Common Rinnai faults in Hobart homes
Error code 12 — flame failure
The unit lights then drops out. Usually gas pressure, a partially blocked burner, or a flue restriction on a unit fitted in a tight side passage.
Cold water sandwich
Short bursts of cold mid-shower on older Infinity units. Frequently low flow through a clogged inlet filter or a mixer tap not drawing enough water to hold the burner on.
Frost damage
A genuine Hobart issue. Infinity units have frost protection but only while powered — units left switched off at the isolation point through winter can split internally.
When replacing beats repairing
Heat exchanger failure on an out-of-warranty Infinity is the point where replacement usually wins; almost everything else — igniters, valves, sensors, filters — is economically repairable.
