Heat Pump
Heat pumps extract warmth from the surrounding air to heat your water — using a fraction of the electricity of a standard electric system. Often eligible for federal STCs.

Is heat pump right for you?
- Cutting power bills
- Solar PV homes
- STC rebate eligible
We install, replace and repair heat pump systems from all the major Australian brands. Not sure if it's the right fit? Send through an enquiry and we'll walk you through it.

What to know about heat pump hot water.
- Efficiency
- Uses a fraction of the electricity of a standard element.
- Install time
- Typically most of a day when converting from electric storage.
- Rebates
- Eligible models can attract federal STCs at point of sale.
- Siting
- Needs airflow, clearance and condensate drainage.
A heat pump suits households with steady hot water demand and somewhere sensible to put the unit. It is the strongest running-cost improvement available on an all-electric home, and pairs well with rooftop solar PV by running during the day. Efficiency falls in cold weather, so model choice matters more in a cooler climate.
What to watch for
- Placement near bedroom windows or a neighbour's boundary — noise is a real consideration.
- Condensate needing a proper drainage path, not just a trickle onto paving.
- Timer or tariff settings, which decide whether the running-cost saving actually shows up.
Heat pump vs solar hot water
Both cut running costs. Which one fits depends mostly on your roof.
| Solar hot water | Heat pump | |
|---|---|---|
| Energy source | Roof collectors plus electric or gas boost | Ambient air plus a small amount of electricity |
| Roof needs | Suitable orientation, pitch and no shading | None — ground or slab mounted |
| Winter output | Boost carries the load through overcast runs | Runs year-round with reduced efficiency |
| Maintenance | Valves, anode, collectors and roof penetrations | Filter, airflow and condensate drainage |
| Best suited to | Long-term owners with the right roof | Homes wanting efficiency without roof work |

Heat Pump questions.
Do heat pumps work in cold weather?
+
Yes — they extract heat from ambient air and are designed to operate through cold conditions, though efficiency does drop as temperatures fall. Model choice matters more in a cooler climate.
Are heat pumps eligible for rebates?
+
Eligible systems can attract federal small-scale technology certificates, which are usually applied as a discount at the point of sale. Eligibility depends on the model and the installation, so we confirm it for your job.
Are heat pumps noisy?
+
They run a compressor and fan, so they are not silent. Placement away from bedroom windows and neighbouring boundaries is part of a good install.
Can a heat pump replace my existing electric tank?
+
In most homes, yes. The unit needs open airflow, clearance around it and somewhere for condensate to drain, so the position is confirmed on site before the changeover is quoted.
